The Gripe
If I pay for an online service (Apple One), I expect no advertising.
At times, the ads take more than 50% of the screen. At other times, the ad is for the service I paid for (Apple One).
Apple is big on privacy, but advertising News+ to existing subscribers seems counterproductive — and annoying to the end-user.
Apple One
Why does Apple News+ contain ads? None of the other services do, and two of them explicitly call out that they are ad-free.
The Solution
Never advertise the thing to someone who already has purchased the thing.
Be consistent. If there are multiple services in a paid package, then all services should be ad-free.
If there is an option for a paid and a non-paid service, then the paid service should not be subsidized with ads. I am paying, so I don’t see ads (in the digital world). Advertising is an old school model that serves no purpose in 2021.
